With the recent passing of Robin Terry, the Tasmanian Rural Valuation cadre has lost one of its finest. Robin was Tasmanian President of the API in 1978. 

His knowledge of the history of the State’s farming families from the earliest grants and settlements through to the present was unsurpassed. 

His memory of land areas, property sales, soil types, rainfall figures, and stocking rates was legendary, and his thoughts on all things rural were eagerly sought after by those needing answers. 

A true gentleman, he worked for many years as the Regional Valuer in the Valuer General’s Office, Hobart, before moving back to work with Doug Dickinson, another rural valuation stalwart. 

Together, a more formidable and knowledgeable team on the Tasmanian rural valuation scene would be impossible to find. 

Outside of work, Robin and his wife Helen (deceased) enjoyed many years on their farm fronting the Derwent River at Gretna. His many pastimes included bushwalking, fishing, hunting and shooting, and travel. 

There are only a few places in Australia and indeed the globe that have not been visited by Robin and Helen over their many years together. In their late 80’s they were in Egypt exploring the Nile. 

Robin always took a very keen interest in his sons and their families as well as his many friends and their families. He loved to help them all in any way wherever he could. 

In his last year with failing health, his eyes would still light up at the mention of a rural property, a good rain, stock prices rising, etc. 

A true gentleman, his knowledge, judgement, advice and above all genuine friendship will be very sadly missed. Vale R.R. Terry.
