1926
Foundation
Founded as the Commonwealth Institute of Valuers & 1st division established. A dedicated group of professionals recognised the need for an organisation to uphold the highest standards in property practices.

1941
First Convention
The first Annual Convention of the Institute was held in in 1941

1962
First Female Member
Lesley Bennett was the first female Member of the API and leaves behind a proud legacy.
Studying at RMIT she graduated with a Real Estate Management Certificate and Survey Drafting Certificate. Initially working as a primary teacher for four years, she then moved into a position with Vic Railways as a tracer. Within 6 months she moved into an ‘acting’ Valuation role, gaining her industry experience.

1991
Rebrand
The Institute changed its name to Australian Institute of Valuers & Land Economists Incorporated

1998
Rebrand
The Institute changed its name to The Australian Property Institute Incorporated

2016
Unification
The API changed it structure to a national model as the Australian Property Institute Limited
