The Australian Bureau of Statistics has just released the housing completion data for the June quarter of 2026, which provides an important update on new housing supply across the nation.

Our Chief Economist, Dr Sherman Chan, has analysed every state and territory’s performance against the government’s National Housing Accord target, which aims to have a total of 1.2 million new homes between July 2024 and June 2029.

  • Every state and territory is falling short of its share of the national target for the first two years of the five-year target.
