It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Professor Connie Susilawati, Professor of Property Economics in the Faculty of Business and Law at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Connie passed away peacefully on Wednesday 6 May 2026 following a long illness.

Connie was a highly respected scholar whose work made significant contributions to the fields of property, economics, sustainability, and infrastructure. Throughout her distinguished career at QUT, she brought insight, integrity, and compassion to her research, addressing critical issues including affordable housing, sustainability, and climate change. Her influence extended well beyond Australia, impacting colleagues, students, and industry professionals around the world.

She was also a deeply valued teacher, supervisor, and mentor who generously supported students and colleagues throughout her career. Many members of the Australian Property Institute benefited from Connie’s guidance, encouragement, and genuine care as they began their professional journeys as students. Under her tutelage, many went on to become leaders within some of the largest property firms across the country.

Beyond QUT, Connie was a long-standing contributor to the broader academic and professional community, including through her involvement as a board member of the Pacific Rim Real Estate Society. She was widely respected not only for her scholarship and leadership, but also for the kindness, warmth, humility, and generosity she brought to those around her.

In June last year, Connie also participated in the 48-kilometre Kokoda Challenge Brisbane through D’Aguilar National Park as part of team CouRAgE, demonstrating remarkable determination and resilience in extremely demanding conditions.

Connie’s passing is a significant loss to the profession and to all who knew and worked with her. We extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, students, and colleagues during this difficult time. She will be remembered with great respect and affection.
