NSW 2025 Year in Review
As we approach the end of 2025, it is a pleasure to share with you what has been an energising and productive year at the API, for our NSW members. This year’s program has been shaped around connection, education and stronger pathways for valuers and students across the state. We are proud of what we have delivered and even more excited about what is yet to come.
Our year began with the NSW Property Market Outlook which provided members with timely insights in market cycles. With shifting conditions across both metropolitan and regional NSW, this session helped members position themselves with confidence for the year ahead. Momentum continued with the NSW Country Conference, our flagship event held in sunny Kiama, which brought our regional professionals together to exchange knowledge and strengthen networks beyond Sydney.
The Young Property Professionals had an especially strong year with the YPP Newcastle Networking event followed by a very successful and sold out YPP Trivia Night. These gatherings offered newer members and students the opportunity to engage with peers, build professional confidence and enjoy being part of our supportive community.
One of the strongest education offerings this year came through the Just Terms Series. Both Series 1 and Series 2 attracted significant attendance and reinforced the importance of continued learning in compensation, acquisition and statutory valuation. These sessions remain a cornerstone of our professional development commitment.
Our 60th Kiparra Day celebration was a standout moment in the NSW calendar. The event brought members together to honour a long-standing tradition while reflecting on the evolution of our profession. We extend special recognition to Stuart Rowan FAPI, who has attended every single Kiparra Day since its inception. The day was marked by thoughtful discussion, meaningful industry insights and exceptional networking, making it a truly memorable milestone for our community.
Our NSW Lunch and Learn with Jenine Cranston, organised by the YPP Committee, offered a thoughtful look at how Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors are influencing the property sector by attracting investment, complying with regulations, and creating long-term value. It gave members the chance to learn in a more intimate format and to engage directly with an industry leader. The YPP Cocktail Gala introduced even more new faces to the broader API community and reinforced how critical strong networks are, for ongoing career success.
Students and early career members benefited from the Application and Interview Essentials session which provided practical tools for preparing for their professional interview and certification. They heard what to expect from the process and what to look out for, directly from an interviewer and from a recent graduate valuer. This session built on our ongoing engagement and relationship with UTS, Western Sydney University and TAFE, ensuring students across these pathways feel supported, informed and confident as they transition into the profession. The NSW Public Sector Property Conference at the tail end of the year, deepened our collective understanding of public sector work and its growing influence on valuation practice.
We closed the calendar with our NSW End of Year Drinks which provided a warm and enjoyable way for our members and wonderful volunteers to relax, reconnect and celebrate a year of progress.
One of the most energising developments of 2025 has been the arrival of our inaugural Chief Economist, Dr Sherman Chan. With more than 20 years of experience across both the public and private sectors, Dr Chan brings exceptional insight and rigor to our organisation. Her expertise is already strengthening our research capability, enhancing our market analysis and enriching the insights we provide to our members, facilitating a deeper understanding of the forces shaping property markets across Australia.
We have also been thrilled to welcome our new CEO, John Winter CAE, who joined API in May 2025. John brings a fresh strategic lens and a strong commitment to member value, along with professional excellence, whilst securing the future of the valuation profession.
To cap off the year, and in the spirit of supporting our members, we are pleased to confirm a five percent reduction in membership fees for next year. This initiative reflects our dedication to delivering meaningful value through education, professional resources and ongoing career support.
On a personal note, I have genuinely enjoyed creating the Gangster Gardener articles throughout the year. Exploring how gardens influence property values, liveability and market perception has been deeply rewarding and confirming.
As we step confidently into 2026, our commitment to our members remains strong. We will continue to deliver relevant events, learning opportunities and resources that support and elevate your professional journey. Thank you for your enthusiasm, your participation and your ongoing trust in the API. Your participation and engagement make the world of difference.
Here’s to a bright, and successful 2026!
With enthusiasm and gratitude,
Aphrodite Kant
