Market Update – Household Spending Still a Solid Contributor to Economic Growth
The newly released June quarter GDP data show mixed performances across different states and industries. Domestic demand growth was strongest in the Northern Territory and Queensland, while Victoria recorded a negative result. The Professional, Scientific and Technical Services sector made the largest contribution to economic growth, followed by Mining and Financial and Insurance Services.
Inflation has slowed in recent months but remains well above the RBA’s target band, meaning the RBA will maintain a tightening bias.
Meanwhile, housing supply growth remains below the National Housing Accord target, with New South Wales, Tasmania and the Northern Territory particularly behind.
