      The Preston Rowe Paterson Regional Scholarship supports a final-year student from regional Australia who is enrolled in an API-accredited property valuation degree. The scholarship is intended for students planning to work in regional Australia after graduation.

      The Robert Hecek Scholarship supports one final-year student studying an API accredited property valuation degree.

       

      The objective of the Scholarship is to:

      • Advance Valuation students entering their final year of study experiencing financial hardship.
      • Advance education, training, and development in the property industry
      • Promote the transition from student to graduation and then onto property professional

      Advancing Women in Property Scholarship

      The Advancing Women in Property scholarship promotes engaging and advancing women in the property industry through education, training, and development to ensure the property profession is a thriving option for women following a career break, who are looking to progress their career through studying an accredited degree.

       

      The objective of the Scholarship is to:

      • Advance education, training, and development in the property industry
      • Promote the property profession as a thriving option for women following a career break

      The scholarship is open to undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degrees and spans the duration of an API accredited property degree, totalling a maximum term of 3-years, awarded yearly at $10,000. Together with financial aid, property professional who will act as a mentor during their study.

      Tasmanian Scholarship

      The Tasmanian Education Scholarship supports a student residing in Tasmania to pursue study of an API accredited property degree, ultimately to become a Certified Practising Valuer in Tasmania. The scholarship is open to both prospective students commencing their studies and continuing students enrolled in an API accredited property degree, recognising that financial and mentoring support is valuable at any stage of the degree.

       

      The Scholarship supports a student to live, work and study in Tasmania, supported by the community, and industry.

       

      The scholarship provides an amount of up to $10,000 per calendar year for each remaining year of the recipient’s API accredited property degree, paid at the same annual rate whether the recipient is a prospective or continuing student. The total value of the scholarship is therefore up to $30,000 over three years of full-time study, with no more than $10,000 paid in any calendar year.

       

      In addition to the financial scholarship, the recipient will be provided with access to mentors from the Tasmanian membership base, including our Young Property Professional Committee members, and State Committee members, who will provide local industry guidance, networking opportunities and exposure to the Tasmanian property market throughout their studies.

      Examples of who should apply

      • A current Year 12 student in Tasmania who has applied for an API accredited property degree to commence the following year.
      • A mature-age Tasmanian resident, working in a related field, who has been offered a place in an API accredited property degree.
      • A Tasmanian resident (or person considering relocating to Tasmania) currently in the second year of a different degree who wishes to transfer into an API accredited property degree, or to pursue an API accredited graduate-entry property degree, in order to specialise in valuation.
      • A Tasmanian resident already enrolled in an API accredited property degree (for example, in first or second year) who is making satisfactory progress and has at least one full year of study remaining.

      Rural & Regional Scholarship

      The rural education scholarship financially supports the study of  specialising in the valuation field to a prospective 2026 tertiary student, either currently studying Year 12 or a mature-aged applicant.

       

      The scholarship fund spans the duration of an API accredited property valuation degree, totaling a maximum term of 3-years, awarded yearly at $10,000. The fund supports the awardee to relocate to a university of their choosing and assists with payment of books and materials as well as tuition. Together with financial support, the awardee of the scholarship will also be supported by a senior API-certified property professional who will act as a mentor during their studies.

       

      The Applicant must currently reside in a rural or regional location in mainland Australia for the scholarship to be awarded.

      Trainee Valuer

      Knight Frank

       

      Maxine Chai is a Trainee Valuer with Knight Frank’s Valuation & Advisory team in Canberra, where she is developing her expertise across a broad range of property sectors and asset classes. Since entering the property industry, she has gained exposure to residential development, commercial and specialised assets, helping her build a well-rounded understanding of valuation and the diverse factors that influence property markets.

       

      In her current role, Maxine is involved in a wide variety of commercial valuation assignments and is working closely with Steven Flannery on land subdivision and specialised property valuations. She has also gained experience in residential development valuations under the guidance of Greg Cummins, providing her with valuable insight across multiple market segments and strengthening her technical and analytical capabilities.

       

      Maxine brings a strong academic foundation to her role, having completed a Bachelor of Finance and Economics at the University of Melbourne, followed by a Graduate Diploma of Property at Deakin University in 2024. She is currently working towards her Certified Practising Valuer (CPV) qualification and is passionate about continuing to grow her skills and contribute to the profession.

       

      As a member of the ACT Young Property Professionals (YPP) State Committee, Maxine is enthusiastic about connecting with fellow emerging professionals and supporting initiatives that encourage learning, collaboration and industry engagement. She values the importance of building strong professional networks and is excited to contribute to a vibrant and supportive property community in the ACT.

      James Sykes

      James Sykes is an Assistant Valuer within the Canberra Valuations & Advisory team at Colliers, where he specialises in providing independent valuation advice across commercial, industrial and development property assets throughout the ACT. He holds a Bachelor of Business (Property) from Western Sydney University and is building a strong foundation within the valuation profession through his work across a diverse range of property sectors.

       

      In his role at Colliers, James supports senior valuers in the preparation of detailed valuation reports, market analysis and client advice. Through this experience, he has developed strong analytical and reporting skills, with a focus on delivering accurate, well-supported and client-focused valuation outcomes. He is currently working towards his AAPI CPV accreditation under the mentorship of Phil Harding and Robert Rixon.

       

      Passionate about ongoing professional development and industry engagement, James joined the Young Property Professionals (YPP) Committee to connect with peers, contribute to the growth of the profession, and help create opportunities for emerging property professionals across the ACT. He values the importance of building strong industry relationships and fostering a supportive and collaborative professional community.

      Riva Kwok is a Valuer within the Canberra team at Acumentis, where she specialises in providing independent valuation advice across a broad range of residential property assets throughout the ACT and surrounding New South Wales regions.

       

      With hands-on experience across diverse residential property types, Riva has developed a strong understanding of local market dynamics, valuation methodologies and the key factors influencing residential property values. Prior to joining Acumentis, she gained valuable industry experience with Cushman & Wakefield in Hong Kong and CBRE in Canberra, broadening her professional perspective and providing insight into property markets across different jurisdictions.

       

      Riva is a Certified Practising Valuer (CPV Residential) and holds a Master of Property from RMIT University. She is committed to maintaining high professional standards and continually enhancing her technical expertise, with a strong focus on delivering accurate, independent and client-focused valuation advice.

       

      Passionate about the property profession, Riva values continuous learning, professional development and building meaningful connections within the industry. As a member of the ACT Young Property Professionals (YPP) State Committee, she is excited to contribute to initiatives that support emerging professionals, encourage collaboration and help foster a vibrant and engaged property community.

      Josh Singh is a final-year Bachelor of Property Economics student at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and is currently undertaking an internship with Knight Frank through the Student Internship Program. As part of the program, he is gaining exposure across a range of property disciplines, including Valuations & Advisory, Project Management, Asset Management Services and Capital Markets, providing him with valuable insights into the breadth and diversity of the property industry.

      Alongside his academic and professional experience, Josh has demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership and industry engagement through his roles as Co-President of the Real Estate Investment Society Australia (REISA) at UTS and Vice-President of the Built Environment Association. These positions have enabled him to develop valuable skills in stakeholder engagement, collaboration and leadership while fostering connections within the property and built environment community.

      Analytically driven and commercially minded, Josh is passionate about all facets of the property industry and is enthusiastic about contributing to its future growth. As the UTS representative on the Young Property Professionals (YPP) Committee, he is committed to supporting students and emerging professionals, creating opportunities for meaningful industry engagement, and helping build strong connections across the property sector.

      David is a Senior Valuer at Palise Property, bringing extensive experience across residential and commercial property sourcing, inspections, analytics, advisory services, and settlement management. Holding a bachelor’s degree in Property Valuation, he plays a key role in delivering thorough due diligence and property analytics, while also supporting the onboarding of new clients and contributing to the continued growth of the business.

      Prior to transitioning into the property industry, David built a successful career spanning more than 20 years in the domestic and international hotel sector. This experience provided him with a strong foundation in client relationship management, asset stewardship and service excellence, skills that continue to serve him well in advising property investors and helping clients achieve their investment objectives. David’s broad industry experience, analytical approach and commitment to delivering quality outcomes have enabled him to develop a well-rounded understanding of the property market and the factors that influence investment performance.

      As a member of the API NSW YPP State Committee, David is passionate about supporting the next generation of property professionals.       Prior to joining McLaughlin Property Services, Roberto gained experience as a Practising Valuer at Marchese Property Valuations, further broadening his understanding of valuation processes and property market fundamentals.

      Alongside his professional role, Roberto is actively involved within the industry as a Committee Member of the Australian Property Institute’s Young Property Professionals (YPP) network and serves as a Board Member of the Western Sydney Property Club. Since joining Knight Frank Australia in 2022 as an Administrative Assistant, Sophia has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence, progressing through the roles of Assistant Property Manager and now Property Manager.

       

      Alongside her professional growth, Sophia completed a Bachelor of Business (Property) at Western Sydney University, graduating with Distinction, reflecting her commitment to both academic and industry excellence.

      Joe Zoghbi is a Valuation Analyst at Marsh, where he has spent the past three years specialising in insurance and financial reporting valuations across both the public and private sectors. His work spans projects throughout Australia and selected international markets, providing him with broad exposure to diverse property and asset valuation challenges.

      Throughout his career, Joe has developed experience across a wide range of asset classes, including specialised assets, industrial, commercial and residential property. This breadth of exposure has given him a strong understanding of the valuation profession and the important role it plays across various industries and sectors. He is currently preparing to undertake his Certified Practising Valuer (CPV) qualification as he continues to advance his professional career.
      Joe joined the Young Property Professionals (YPP) Committee because of his passion for supporting the next generation of property professionals. He strongly believes in the value of creating opportunities for young people to learn, develop meaningful industry connections and build successful careers within the property sector.

Currently working full-time with Ray White Valuations as part of the Residential Developments Team, specialises in delivering accurate, market-driven insights across a broad range of residential and mixed use projects, supporting informed decision-making for clients and stakeholders. In addition to professional responsibilities, Brigitta serves as a Young Property Professionals (YPP) Committee Member, contributing to initiatives that foster industry connection, professional growth and opportunity. Passionate about mentoring and supporting emerging talent, she is actively involved in organising industry events and facilitating meaningful networking opportunities.       Vihari graduated with a Bachelor of Property Economics from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 2024 and joined Colliers Brisbane Valuation & Advisory Services team in May of that year. As an Assistant Valuer, Vihari works within a team that provides valuation and consultancy advice to a variety of institutional and private clients. Vihari contributes to a diverse range of valuations across Queensland. Prior to this role, Vihari gained extensive experience in the real estate industry, having worked as a Leasing Executive in Brisbane fringe precincts and as a Sales Associate in the residential markets. Vihari is committed to helping deliver precise and insightful valuation reports and with his dedication to excellence and continuous learning, he is a valuable asset to both the Colliers team and their clients as well as the property industry.

      Teigan Diphoorn

      Teigan represents the new generation of Valuers, having entered the industry nearly five years ago. She has gained experience in the commercial and litigation space, undertaking valuations of a diverse range of asset types, including specialised property portfolios for private clients across Australia. Currently, she is employed as a Valuation Consultant at Marsh, a global advisory and insurance firm, where she is involved in valuations for major Queensland council’s and national private clients for both insurance and financial reporting purposes. Teigan is actively involved in the valuation community, serving on the Queensland Committee of the Australian Property Institute’s Young Property Professional’s, and also works as a Sessional Academic in the Queensland University of Technology’s, Bachelor of Property Economics program. She is passionate about making a meaningful impact in the valuation industry and inspiring young women and students to pursue this career path.

      Ross graduated from Lincoln University with a Bachelor of commerce majoring in Valuation and Farm Management in 1989 and commenced as a graduate valuer in the Valuer Generals Office in Port Lincoln, South Australia in 1990. After practising across the Eyre Peninsula for several years, transferring to the VG’s  Warradale Office and after a short stint in private practice in Adelaide, Ross moved to Darwin and commenced with the Australian Valuation Office in 1994.       Angus has been a Certified Practising Valuer since 2001 and brings over two decades of experience providing valuation services across Canberra and the broader Southeast NSW region. Throughout his career, he has undertaken a wide range of valuation work, including acquisition and disposal, family law, mortgage security, asset management, rent reviews, capital gains tax, statutory requirements, and mortgagee in possession matters.
      Currently managing a team of valuers based in Canberra, Goulburn, and Cooma, Angus oversees valuation and advisory services across the ACT and Southeast NSW. He is also actively involved with the Australian Property Institute, contributing his time and expertise as a professional interview panellist to support the next generation of valuers.

      Kellie Mossop is a Certified Practising Valuer and Associate Member of the Australian Property Institute since 2003, with over 20 years’ experience in industrial, rural, and rural/residential valuations across the ACT and surrounding NSW, including Yass, Hall, Murrumbateman, Gunning, and Boorowa.

      She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Property and Economics and a Graduate Diploma in Business, Stock and Station Agent, Real Estate Management from the University of Western Sydney. Prior to joining Opteon, Kellie ran her own valuation business, Regional Valuers, and as a Senior Valuer at Opteon, she has helped expand advisory and valuation services across the region while maintaining a strong focus on residential and rural residential properties. Since 2023, she has also served as a Panel Interviewer for the API.

      Kellie brings expertise in rural and residential valuations, agribusiness, government advisory, family law, and capital gains tax, and is dedicated to supporting ACT members with her local market knowledge and professional insight.

Marcus has been active throughout the capital cities of Canberra and Sydney as well as regional NSW including Queanbeyan, Murrumbateman, Yass, Wagga Wagga, Cooma, Jindabyne and Goulburn. Marcus has worked predominantly in real estate advisory and property valuation across a broad range of property sectors including residential, commercial, retail, industrial, rural, special purpose, and mixed-use. Areas of specialisation include real estate valuations, portfolio valuations, stakeholder engagement, due diligence, strategic review/feasibility analysis, highest and best use analysis, and divestment strategies.       Stephen Protopopoff – API ACT State Committee Stephen has over 30 years’ experience in the property industry, spanning valuation, asset management, and advisory roles in both government and private sectors. His work has taken him from the ACT and NSW to international portfolios across more than 55 countries.  An API member since 1990 and CPV since 1996, Stephen has provided valuation advice across all property classes for statutory, insurance, acquisition, divestment, rental, and financial reporting purposes. He is currently a Senior Valuer with the ACT Valuation Office, delivering statutory valuations, lease variation assessments, and policy advice. Stephen is a strong supporter of the API’s role in professional development and advocacy. He has served on regional committees, represented the API before the ACT Legislative Assembly, and is contributing to the National Education Committee on government valuation accreditation.  Stephen is dedicated to supporting members through the challenges of today’s economic climate. He encourages ACT members to share their ideas and perspectives and welcomes the opportunity to bring these forward for discussion at the State Committee level.

      Rishikesh has experience across a wide range of real estate asset classes gained within the Melbourne and international markets.   Rishikesh completed his Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Hotel Administration in India and a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Service Industries in Switzerland, which was a joint degree with Endicott College, USA.   Rishikesh commenced his career in pre-opening luxury hotels and resorts across middle east prior to joining PKF Dubai, a valuation and advisory practice. He later headed the strategy and development team for a real estate developer in India prior to owning and operating his own advisory practice.   After relocating to Australia permanently, Rishikesh undertook the Master of Property course at University of Melbourne and has gained local experience in valuation of commercial and residential property for mortgage as well as asset reporting, family law and advisory purposes.   At Colliers, Rishikesh works closely with the National Healthcare and Retirement Living team within the broader Valuation and Advisory Services (CIVAS) division. In addition to valuation assignments for mortgage security, financial reporting, acquisition and disposal purposes, Rishikesh is involved in providing strategic advice to a broad range of clients.  Rishikesh is an Associate Member of the Australian Property Institute (AAPI), and since the beginning of 2025, has accepted the position of Co-Chair of the Victoria State Committee, with the objective of serving as a liaison between API members, broader API initiatives and advocacy matters, and the API Board.

Nicole specialises in valuations of high value dwellings and apartments; boutique, medium density residential and mixed use developments across the Metropolitan Melbourne and selected regional localities; together with purpose-built rooming houses, serviced apartments and Specialised Disability Accommodation (SDA), providing valuation services for a wide range of purposes and users.  Nicole was part of the API Vic CPD Committee Member from 2019 – 2022 before she joined the API Vic State Committee in 2022, and succeeding the State Committee Chair position from 2024.

      Marcia Bowden LFAPI is the Principal of Bowden Advisory Services, a Canberra-based consultancy she established in 2010, providing strategic expertise in Corporate Real Estate, Design Management, and Development Management across both the public and private sectors in the commercial property sector. Marcia also undertakes Pro bono work for various not for profits and charities in the ACT.
      With a property career spanning more than 40 years, Marcia has held senior roles within the Commonwealth Public Service, NSW and ACT Public Services and acted as a trusted advisor to the Commonwealth Government through leading firms such as JLL and United Group. Since relocating to Canberra in 1994, she has remained a passionate advocate for the property profession in the ACT and beyond.
      Marcia is a Life Fellow of the Australian Property Institute and former National President currently serves as Chair of the ACT State Committee. She also contributes to the future of the profession through her role on the API’s National Education Standards Committee and she is also a member of the Professional Conduct and Complaints Committee.
