2027 APREF Scholarship Applications are now open

The next round of scholarship applications are now open from 30 June 2026 and closes on 30 January 2027. 

Scholarship Details

The Rural & Regional education scholarship financially supports the study of specialising in the valuation field to one (1) prospective 2027 tertiary student, either currently studying Year 12 or a mature-aged applicant. 

The scholarship fund spans the duration of an API accredited property valuation degree, totalling a maximum term of 3-years, awarded yearly at $10,000. The fund supports the awardee to relocate to a university of their choosing and assists with payment of books and materials as well as tuition. Together with financial support, the awardee of the scholarship will also be supported by a senior API-certified property professional who will act as a mentor during their studies.

The Applicant must currently reside in a rural or regional location in mainland Australia for the scholarship to be awarded.

The Rural & Regional Education Scholarship is open to commencing students. You are eligible to apply if you are: 

• a current Year 12 student living in a regional or rural area who has applied, or intends to apply, for an API accredited property degree commencing in 2027; 

• a mature-age applicant living in a regional or rural area who has been offered a place, or intends to enrol, in an API accredited property degree; 

• a rural or regional resident currently enrolled in another degree who wishes to transfer into an API accredited property degree.

Objective

1. Encourage Rural & Regional participation in the property industry.
2. Advance education, training, and development in the property industry.

Definitions

Rural & Regional (excludes Tasmania) resident applying to an API accredited degree.

Rural: is defined to encompass all areas outside Australia’s Major cities. https://www.aihw.gov.au/reports-data/population-groups/rural-remote-australians/links-other-information

Regional: is defined to include all of the towns, small cities and areas that lie beyond the major capital cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide).  http://www.regionalaustralia.org.au/home/what-is-regional- Australia/  

For the purpose of this Scholarship, all of the Northern Territory and all of the Australian Capital Territory are considered as regional.

Value and length of scholarships

1. The scholarship is open to undergraduate or postgraduate course work degrees.
   1. An undergraduate who is enrolled in a three-year degree will be awarded up to a total value of $30,000 paid in installments and to a maximum of $10,000 in any calendar year.
   2. A postgraduate who is enrolled in a one-year program will be awarded $10,000.
   3. The scholarship is based on full-time, flexible study and will be pro-rated for a part-time course load.
2. Recipient will be awarded the scholarship subject to Scholarship Terms.
3. Recipients will also have access to a property professional who will act as a mentor during their study.

Qualifying Conditions

*Please note – applications only open to students who have not yet commenced their accredited property degree

1. The applicant must be accepted into one of the API accredited property valuation degrees to commence study in Semester 1, 2027.
2. The applicant must be a Rural or Regional resident at the time of application.
3. The applicant must be an Australian citizen or the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or Australian permanent humanitarian visa.
4. For the duration of the Scholarship, the recipient must be enrolled and active in the API accredited property valuation degree, and
5. As this Scholarship has been created under the APREF Education Fund, the applicant must meet one or more of the following qualification criteria:
   1. the scholarship applicant is disadvantaged due to poverty, sickness, suffering or disability;
   2. the scholarship applicant is deserving of a scholarship for reasons of merit;
   3. the scholarship applicant is deserving of a scholarship for other reasons of equity; or
   4. the scholarship applicant is deserving of a scholarship for one or more of the reasons listed in the APREF Constitution or any other reason as determined by the ATO or the Department of Education and Training’s Research and Higher Education Infrastructure Branch from time to time.

Application process

• Applicants are to apply by completing the API APREF 2027 Scholarships Application Form and attaching the required information.
• Applications must be submitted by COB on 30 January 2027 to [email protected]
• Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

*Receipt of applications will be acknowledged.

Assessment Process

• All applications will be reviewed and assessed by the APREF Education Committee.
• Shortlisted applicants will be notified in February 2027.
• Applicants who are not shortlisted will be advised.
• The APREF Education Committee will make recommendations to the APREF Board for consideration and decision on the award of the scholarships.
• Successful applicants will be notified in March 2027 and will be required to confirm, in writing, of a university offer to commence study in an API accredited property valuation degree in 2027 and their written acceptance of that offer.
• Applicants will be required to accept the Offer of scholarship in writing, along with acceptance of the scholarship terms.
