New API Rules of Professional Conduct released

Code of Professional Conduct
The current API Code of Professional Conduct has been in place since June 2015. It is a public statement of the standards, principles, values and behaviours expected of our Members.
Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional Conduct
In 2020, a new Code of Ethics was introduced, which set out the five fundamental, guiding ethical principles that all Members must abide by.
The review of the Code of Professional Conduct has now been finalised and approved. The aim of the review was two-fold, to ensure it:
- provided greater assistance to members about how to undertake professional services in an ethical and professional manner; and
- complements the Code of Ethics.
As a result of the review, the Code of Professional Conduct has been renamed and reclassified as the Rules of Professional Conduct (Rules). The reclassification allows this Rules document to expand on the Code of Ethics where required (eg. more of practical ‘how to’ guidance). The intent of the Rules has not changed.
Who needs to comply with this upgraded Standard?
The Rules are mandatory for all Members and Appendix 1 of the Rules contains Rules for Valuers which are applicable to Members providing valuation services of real property and plant, machinery and equipment (chattels).
Where will I find a copy of the Rules?
We encourage all Members to read the new Rules, which are available here.
If there are any questions or comments regarding the API Rules of Professional Conduct please do not hesitate to contact us at standards@api.org.au.
