Being held for the first time in Geelong we discuss regional issues to Victoria but also a number of developments central to Geelong that are driving this regional hub and it’s surrounding towns and districts

The API Victorian Regional Conference brings together government representatives, bank representatives, mining industry professionals, and environmental experts for a comprehensive discussion on the future development of regional areas. The conference serves as a platform to foster collaboration and devise strategies for sustainable growth. Government officials will cover their commitment to investing in regional infrastructure and promoting economic development outside major cities. Banks representatives emphasized the need for tailored financial solutions to support regional businesses and boost investment opportunities in key sectors such as mining.

One of the key topics discussed during the conference was the Central Geelong Framework Plan. Government representatives presented the plan, which aims to transform Geelong into a thriving regional center by revitalizing its urban environment and enhancing economic opportunities. The plan encompasses strategic land use and transport planning, creating vibrant public spaces, and attracting investment to support job growth.

The conference will also place a strong emphasis on the environment and sustainability. Recognizing the significance of regional areas in preserving natural resources and biodiversity, environmental experts will cover the need for responsible and eco-friendly practices in mining operations.

Brendan Hillerman, Landholder Support at Vegetation Link
Brendon’s background is in the telecommunications technology sector, working in technical roles and the moving in Sales Management. Wanting a change, he studied Conservation and Land Management, and then worked as a Pest Animal and Plant Controller. Work outfits changed dramatically. He now works at Vegetation Link, combining his interpersonal skills with his new conservation credentials to assist landowners in entering the offset market in Victoria.
Greater Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan
Trent Sullivan has been Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong since November 2022. He had served as Deputy Mayor for two years, before being elected as the youngest mayor in the city’s history. Mayor Sullivan has leadership experience across a range of organisations and sectors, including economic development, city planning, tourism, major events, circular economy and health. He is passionate about the local community, and committed to realising Geelong’s clever and creative future.

Tessa Leigh-Lancaster, Senior Valuer – Matheson Stephen Valuations
Tessa is a Certified Practising Valuer who has been involved in the property industry since 2014, starting her career in municipal valuations prior to moving into the Compulsory Acquisition space. Tessa is the current chairperson of the Municipal Group of Valuers and sits on the API National Education Committee. She was an award finalist for the API 2022 Young Property Professional of the Year Award and was the recipient of the 2020 Maddock’s Aspiring Expert of the Year Award in which she undertook research and presented on her topic Encumbered Land Valuations at the Municipal Group of Valuers 2021 Country Conference.
Tim Gleeson Associate Director, Preston Rowe Paterson
Tim is a Certified Practising Valuer and Partner at Preston Rowe Paterson Geelong and Warrnambool. He has worked in the valuation industry for over a decade, with broad experience over various asset types and market segments. He leads PRP’s Government Services Department which provides specialist valuation advice to Local, State and Federal Government across South West Victoria.
