Alfonso del Rio sets the standard for real estate lawyers. An honorary fellow of the Australian Property Institute (since 2007) and past winner of its Property Industry Award as well as five-time Solicitor of the Year award recipient and Hall of Fame inductee by the Real Estate Institute of the ACT, he is the industry expert in real estate law as well as the application of planning and environmental law, construction law, transaction structuring and project financing to property transactions.

For over 30 years, Alfonso has played a central role in the majority of the ACT’s largest and most complex property transactions for both government and private sector clients. As a result of acting for both the Commonwealth and private sector he has a unique insight into their respective key drivers and motivators.  Due to his understanding of both the public and private sector perspectives he has been able to deliver innovative commercial solutions for numerous complex development projects. He also acts for builders and financiers giving him a unique and unrivalled perspective of the development industry as a whole.

In May 2020 Alfonso was appointed to be a member of the ACT Commercial Tenancies Administration Committee, a key component of the ACT Government’s implementation of the National Cabinet Mandatory Code of Conduct for SME leasing principles during COVID-19.
