This event aims to enlighten and inform delegates about the property market, tourism, local projects, and developments in the region.
We will also be delving into bushfire risk for the region - including information on bushfire guidelines, draft updates to AS 3959, current issues with new and retrospective BAL assesments, landowner bushfire planning due diligence and guidance in preparing a property for the forthcoming fire season.
The afternoon's sessions bring together some of the South West’s local professionals who will be providing relevant, up-to-date information on this ever-evolving region.
Mayor Gary Brennan, City of Bunbury
Gary was first elected City of Bunbury Mayor in October 2013 and was popularly re-elected Mayor in October 2017 by a substantial margin for another four year term. Gary is a Member of the South West Development Commission and volunteers as a signing Justice of Peace. He is a Patron of the Bunbury Swimming Club, the City of Bunbury Surf Lifesaving Club and the City of Bunbury Band.
He is married to Dr Robyn Morris and together they have 5 children and 5 grandchildren. Gary and Robyn are seasoned travellers enjoying adventure tours and visiting places of diverse cultures.
Roger Banks, Principal/Partner, Strategen Enviromental Consultants
Roger Banks is an experienced operational forester and land manager, having worked within the land management, native forestry and plantation forestry sectors for more than 30 years. Combined with his extensive working knowledge, Roger has demonstrated skills in environmental management, bushfire management, plantation development, forest management standards and ISO 14001 compliance, threatened species management, natural resource risk management, wildfire planning and suppression and industrial plantation development and management on private and government owned land.
Roger is experienced with AS/NZS ISO 14000 Environmental Management Systems (EMS), the Australian Forestry Standard (AFS) and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) forest management standards, is a current Bushfire Brigade member, holds CFA accreditation in wildfire suppression and plantation wildfire suppression and is a BPAD level 2 accredited provider.
Joe White, Principal/Licensee, JMW Real Estate
Currently Chair of Finance and Risk at REIWA and Principal/Licensee of JMW Real Estate in Dunsborough Joe’s agency is involved in the selling and leasing the full spectrum of residential, commercial, industrial, development and rural properties.
His 27 year involvement in the property industry followed a business degree in his 20’s after a past life as an ocean going trawler skipper. His interests are in Policy, Property Rights, Property Tax Reform, Land Management in bushfire prone areas and Planning.
As a property generalist, how these issues interface with the effectiveness of our housing delivery frameworks to adapt to the dynamic nature of supply and demand for housing is his primary concern especially in relation to labour economics and the ability for our economy to ensure a mobile and adaptable labour force to fuel the future economic growth of Western Australia.
Robyn Fenech, Owner, Edge Tourism and Marketing
Robyn Fenech is a tourism consultant specialising in regional tourism planning and development. Her business Edge Tourism and Marketing provides a wide range of services to local and State government, NFP’s, statutory authorities and the private sector. In many instances partnerships with other professionals such as planners, architects, economists, engineers and project managers are formed to deliver comprehensive consultancy services. Consultancy work has been undertaken in every region of WA, providing an understanding of the diverse tourism industry, regional community opportunities and challenges, and regional economic development in general. Prior to establishing Edge Tourism and Marketing, Robyn was general manager of two large regional tourism associations. She is currently working on implementing the Bunbury Geographe Growth Plan.
Jim Campbell Clause, Managing Director, AHA Viticulture
Jim is Managing Director of AHA Viticulture, the south-wests leading viticultural management and consulting firm. AHA Viticulture is a long established company providing viticultural services primarily to the wine regions of Western Australia but also to customers in southern Australia and overseas.
Jim's involvement in viticulture started during his studies at the University of Western Australia where he obtained an honours degree in agriculture in 1986. On graduating, Jim joined the WA Department of Agriculture as Viticulture Research Officer. During his eleven years with the Department of Agriculture, Jim carried out research and development on a wide range of wine and table grape projects directed at improving fruit quality and yield. Jim has published research outcomes in both refereed and popular industry journals and manuals and continues to lecture on many aspects of viticulture at TAFE colleges and Universities.
