Join us for this inaugural event for SA Members to network and hear from our guest speaker the Hon Rob Lucas MLC.

Open to all Members, the SA Fellows' Luncheon is an exciting initiative by the API presenting annual luncheons with special speakers and guests. Members of the API are invited to attend this exceptional event and are encouraged to invite guests.

Hon Rob Lucas MLC
Member of the Legislative Council

Born in Kure, Japan, in 1953 and raised in Mount Gambier, Rob Lucas attended Marist Brothers Agricultural College, and Mt Gambier High School.

Rob attended the University of Adelaide, earning Bachelor degrees in Economics and Science, as well as a Masters Degree in Business Administration.

Before his election to parliament, Rob was employed by the South Australian Division of the Liberal Party as the Assistant State Director.

Rob was elected to the Legislative Council in the South Australian Parliament in 1982, and held various shadow portfolios from 1985 to 1993, in particular the education portfolio. In addition, he was Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council from 1989 to 1993.

Rob was appointed the Minister for Education and Children's Services in 1993 and became the Treasurer in 1997. He was later also appointed the Minister for Industry and Trade and the Minister for Government Enterprises. During the term of the former Liberal Government (1993 to 2002) he also served as Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council.

Following the 2002 state election, and up until April 2007, Rob has served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Shadow Treasurer, Shadow Minister for Industry and Trade, Economic Development, Science and Information Economy, and Police.

Rob is currently the Treasurer, with responsibilities for Finance, Industrial Relations and the Public Sector in a Marshall Liberal Government.

Throughout his parliamentary career he has also been a member of various committees investigating issues affecting South Australians, such as:

  • Gillman Select Committee;
  • Internet and Interactive Home Gambling;
  • Electricity Industry in South Australia;
  • The Allegedly Unlawful Practices raised in the Auditor-General's Annual Report;
  • The Atkinson/Ashbourne/Clarke Affair; 
  • Collection of Property Taxes by State and Local Government;
  • Budget and Finance Committee; and,
  • Statutory Authorities Review Committee

Rob and his wife Marie have four children.
