Early this year, Tasmania saw amendments made to the Tasmanian Building Act.

Gabriel Barnes FAPI and National Board Director of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors will summarise these amendments, and what it means for the building industry, Councils and building owners. What are the issues you need to be aware of working in the property industry?

Keith Drew, Director of Xsquared Architects will provide an insight in to how the changes to the Building Act have affected building costs and designs.

Keith Drew
Director, Xsquared Architects

Keith is Director of Xsquared Architects, one of the largest and most respected commercial architectural practices in Tasmania.  Keith has always been actively involved in the architectural profession and the property industry, having been State President of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (Tasmanian Chapter), and with the PCA as a Division Councillor and chair of the Planning Committee.  He is currently the National Convenor for the Architectural Practice Examination administered by the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia, and a Senior Counsellor and Fellow of the Australia Institute of Architects.

Gabriel Barnes
Director, Metrics Group

Gabriel Barnes is Director of Metrics Group – Building Surveyors qualified and licensed in Tasmanian & Victoria with over 32 years in the construction industry, 28 in building surveying. A Fellow Member & National Board Director of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors. Gabriel also holds qualifications in Disability Access Appraisal and Consulting and recently graduated from Victoria Universities Centre for Environmental Safety & Risk Engineering (CESARE) focused on Performance Solutions in Building & Fire Codes.
