Join the Australian Property Institute and the Financial Services Institute of Australasia for our not-to-be-missed annual Economic Indicators Lunch.
Our expert panel led by Paul Bloxham - one of Australia’s leading economists - will dig into 2020, providing their expert thoughts and expectations on current trends.
The panel will explore the impact of the current record low base rate of 0.75%, the potential for a Queensland property boom and the likelihood of a 20% increase in the property market in the next five years.
They will also touch on the significant role world affairs continues to play in local markets. Including the continuing impact of the US-China trade war and the uncertainty of a no-deal Brexit.

Chief Economist, HSBC
Paul Bloxham is HSBC’s Chief Economist for Australia, New Zealand and Global Commodities and is a Managing Director. He is chief spokesperson for HSBC on forecasts and trends for the Australian and New Zealand economies and their interaction with global financial markets and international economies. Paul is also a key spokesperson on HSBC’s unique view on global commodity markets and works closely with HSBC’s global equities team. He is also a member of the Australian National University's Shadow Reserve Bank Board and is an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University.
In 2017, Paul’s team won Focus Economics awards for best overall forecaster for each of Australia and New Zealand. Prior to joining HSBC in 2010, Paul Bloxham spent 12 years as an economist within the Reserve Bank of Australia's Economic Analysis Department. Paul holds a Master's degree in public financial policy from the London School of Economics.
Allison Hill, Director of Investments, QIC
Allison Hill joined QIC’s Global Multi-Asset (GMA) team in January 2018. The GMA team is a leading provider of innovative multi-asset class and sector specific asset class solutions.
Allison is the Director of Investments within the GMA Team. She has direct responsibility for the investment strategy for various funds, including WorkCover Queensland. In addition, Allison leads GMA’s external manager research program.
Allison has 24 years’ experience in investment management and financial markets. Prior to joining QIC, Allison was the Chief Executive Officer at DMP Asset Management, where she oversaw the investment process and asset consulting practice. Prior to this, Allison spent 11 years at Frontier Advisors as a Senior Consultant. Allison was the lead consultant for several of Australia’s largest superannuation funds, was the Head of Debt and Alternatives Research and a member of Frontier’s investment and leadership committees.
James Lane, QLD State Head of Business Banking, ANZ
James currently leads ANZ Agribusiness in Australia with a focus on strategy and Industry Insights designed to deliver information and promote positive change for the industry. James is directly accountable for ANZ’s portfolio of large or complex commercial businesses in regional Australia that together with Agri make a significant contribution to our regional economy.
Working in Agribusiness for 25 years with previous senior business management roles at Rabobank that exposed him to agribusiness in Australia and around the world.
James’s family continue to farm on a dry land cropping property at Waitchie, Northwest Victoria where he was brought up.
Matthew Miller – Development Director Qld, Lendlease
Matthew has over 25 years’ experience in the property industry including roles with some of Australia’s leading property companies including Colliers International, FKP Property Group, Urbis and Grocon.
Matthew joined Lendlease in 2016 as a Senior Development Management, Commercial within the Urban Regeneration team and was promoted to Regional Manager Qld – Commercial in late 2017. In May 2019 he was promoted to Development Director Qld and is responsible for the planning, development and delivery of Lendlease’s $2.9 billion Brisbane Showgrounds precinct and Pine Valley a 2,500 dwelling communities project located 40km north of the Brisbane CBD.
Matthew is a current board member of Brisbane City Council’s Inclusive Brisbane Board and was a past board member of South Bank Corporation and Chair of the PCA’s Qld Commercial & Corporate Real Estate Committee. He was president of the Brisbane Development Association (BDA) from 2010 to 2012.
