4.00 Forum - Site Visit - Ginninderry (A191106)
The Ginninderry community is unique in the Canberra region. The development extends across the ACT/NSW border to the west of Belconnen and includes the newly named suburbs of Strathnairn and Macnamara. Ginninderry is being developed by a Joint Venture between the ACT Government and Riverview Developments Pty Ltd. Ginninderry aims to be a sustainable community of international significance with innovation, diversity and ecological concerns at its core.
Over 30 years Ginninderry will grow at a rate of 300 – 400 homes per year, eventually housing an estimated population of 30,000 in a total of 11,500 homes. Throughout the growth of Ginninderry’s suburbs innovative solutions to affordable housing, social equity, environment, urban design and building for a changing climate will be investigated.
Ginninderry has a focus on addressing sustainability issues at the community level.
- Robust active travel networks
- 80% of old trees retained which are being managed through a research partnership with the ANU’s Fenner School
- A Display Village which boasts houses with an EER rating of 7 and above
- Flexi Living Homes which provide an affordable entry into Canberra’s housing market for eligible home buyers.
- Working with energy providers to create an all-electric suburb
