Certifications

API Members can be found in all areas of the property profession.  They are experienced, qualified professionals who provide the highest quality advice to their employers and clients.

In recognition of this broad base of experience and to allow our members to promote their particular skills and experience the API has created property certifications.  To be eligible to apply for an API Certification each applicant must have completed a recognised qualification and have two years of experience related specifically to the Certification being sought.  These Certifications are available to Associate, Fellow and Life Fellow Members, reflecting their areas of experience in property.

The API's list of Property Certifications are:

Certified Asset Manager

A Certified Asset Manager is a person who is responsible for management, administration and operation of one or more real estate assets owned by a corporation or institution in order to maximise the return on the investment made in those assets.

A Certified Asset Manager is identified by the use of CAM within their API postnominals.

Certified Commercial Property Manager

A person who is responsible for the operation and management of owned, leased or subleased real property, including land, buildings and building equipment. 

Certified Commercial Property Managers are identified by the use of CCPM within their API postnominals. 

Certified Development Practitioner

A person regularly involved in the development of property including from site selection, development strategies, feasibility studies, planning applications and construction of residential or commercial developments through to the ultimate purpose of the sale or lease of the land and/or buildings for profit.

Certified Development Practitioners are identified by the use of CDP within their API postnominals.

Certified Facilities Manager

A person who is responsible for co-ordinating the physical workplace with the people and work of the organisation.

A Certified Facilities Manager is identified by the use of CFacM within their API postnominals.

Certified Funds Manager

A person who is responsible for implementing a fund's investing strategy and managing its portfolio trading activities. A fund can be managed by one person, by two people as co-managers and by a team of three or more people.

Certified Funds Managers are identified by the use of CFM within their API postnominals.

Certified Practising Valuer

A person who, by education, training and experience is qualified to perform a valuation of real property. 

Certified Practising Valuers are identified by the use of CPV within their API postnominals.

Certified Practising Valuer (Business)

A person who, by education, training and experience is qualified to perform a valuation of a business, business ownership interest, security and/or intangible assets.

A Certified Practising Valuer (Business) is identified by the use of CPV (Bus) within their API postnominals.

Certified Practising Valuer (Plant and Machinery)

A person who, by education, training and experience is qualified to perform a valuation of plant and machinery.

A Certified Practising Valuer (Plant and Machinery) is identified by the use of CPV (P&M) within their API postnominals.

Certified Property Practitioner (CPP)

A person involved in the property fields of sales, leasing and negotiation, research, education, law, consultancy, finance corporate real estate and government owned or controlled assets.

Certified Property Practitioners are identified by the use of CPP within their API postnominals. CPP includes subsets CPP (Finance), CPP (Education), CPP (Government) and CPP (Law).
