API Membership via Reciprocity

The API sets the highest standards of entry, ethics and discipline for its Members. This requires applicants to meet the highest levels of qualification, experience and knowledge before they can become Members.

The API has reciprocity agreements in place with select professional bodies around the world who share the same belief in high entry and discipline standards.   


Property Institute of New Zealand

Full, Senior, Fellow or Life Fellow members of the Property Institute of New Zealand (PINZ) may apply for API Associate Membership without the need to provide referee reports or work samples.

If seeking a certification, PINZ members will need to supply referee reports, work samples and sit a professional interview. These requirements are waived for PINZ members applying for Certified Practising Valuer if they are a registered valuer with the New Zealand Valuer Registration Board.

The API reserves the right to require candidates to complete a professional interview.


Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors

Admission via Direct Entry – please complete the form below to begin your application.

MRICS and FRICS with 10 years’ full membership and 10 years’ of relevant work experience may apply for API Associate Membership. 

Applicants must be nominated by three Associate or Fellow members of the API, provide a current CV, have completed 20 CPD points in the past 12 months and successfully complete the API Ethics, Code of Professional Conduct and Professional Standards modules. Those seeking Certified Practising Valuer must also complete the Risk Management Module and International Valuations Standards module. 

In most cases, a professional interview is not required although the API reserves the right to require candidates to complete a professional interview.
